I hit 300!!!

Wish it were .300 for the Twins but I'll take it. I'm surprised I have had that many hits and even more surprised that it continues to rise. That's what she said. But I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for wasting their precious time on my feeble attempt at blogdom. I hope I get better in the next year and continue to entertain, educate, or whatever else you are looking for. Lastly, let's all have a safe holiday break and recharge for the new year because the pain train is comin'!!!!

And another

Can you believe this is a fractal? Too cool.

My Own Private Little Movie Preview

So we got the Dark Knight for Christmas and I discouraged my son from watching it on Saturday. Now just wait, I wanted to watch it as a family with full blown surround sound, no lights, etc. You know what I'm saying. I remember all the hype about Heath Ledger's performance and I have to agree. Greatness. Oscar??? DK. I also thought the voice of Batman was over the top and I appreciate them not hammering us with a bunch of new "toys". It was a little lengthy and I though they could cut a few scenes but isn't that the case in most movies? Oscar clip her, Golden Globe clip there, Toronto Film Festival festivus there. So anyway, on a scale from 1 to 5 I'd have to give it a 4+ish. Anybody else see it? Lemme hear from you.

Enter at your own risk

I was checking out the Washington Post top 10 most watched videos for the year and stumbled across this crazy woman. No doubt she's the hardest working woman in show business, just listen to her talk. I give full credit to her cards and her father complex. Sad part is I'll never get that time back to be used for something constructive.

Also found this cool web site. Don't care if I get that time back or not, neat stuff. It does take a while to load so please be patient. There's a couple that the kids don't need to see but other than that, very cool

Struggling

With all the blogs that I read and all the witty things, I often find myself trying to match them. It's a challenge but then again, is that what it's about? According to wikipedia, a blog has many characteristics and/or definitions. Here's the world's most read blog. Anyway, back to my post. Seems like the things I should post are the things that happen in normal conversation with the wife. Could it be that I'm not quite as witty as I think I am? I believe it has to do with the company I'm with. You see, she gets me and I get her. Have a great day.

Not gonna do it!!

Seems like every blog, web page, newspaper, email and television show is wishing everyone a merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and I even got a "have a great day" at the store this morning. Well I'm not gonna do it, not on this here blog. Not that I'm S.C.R.O.O.G.E. but those canned greetings just drive me nuts. I came up with my own a few years ago that just didn't catch on like I thought it would. C'mon people, I know you are right there with me, just join the cause. The traditional greetings just don't seem too sincere. If my dad says Merry Christmas I'll buy that one but the co-worker at the copier? They are just making small talk, "traveling this holiday?" JEEZZ. Just get outa my way and let me collate before I puke. As for all you that still think I'm Scrooge, have a Merry Frickin' HO-HO.

Fricken Server

So I started a virtual disc build on Friday and when I arrived this morning all was good, so I thought. It probably took about 6 hours total. Damn thing went on it's own and created two partitions in the SCSI BIOS. I've never seen that before so I have to redo the entire thing. I was hoping to download 6T of videos over the next 2 weeks but have been informed that now there probably is not enough time. Crap. Oh well, I guess I'll go in tomorrow and the next day to delete it and then build it again.

Book to Read

You should be able to finish this book in a little over an hour and is a good way to help define your new year's resolutions. It's called Hung by the Tongue and written by Francis P. Martin. It's "a study of the words of your mouth". In other words, what you say is what you get. Give it a shot.

Shut it Down already

Please get off the field and bring in the wrecking ball. Does an old piece of crap stadium really need a farewell like this? NOT. And why isn't jubjub doing the voice over? Anyway, this is so stupid. God's windows? PLEASE. If you are at the stadium watching this crap, I feel so sorry for you. Audio just went to a very high pitched buzz...nice presentation. Something about all of this says jinx. Especially since this happened. BTW, I hope this thing falls down. They are behind one play which really makes this a high class farewell. Sweet emotions.

Can an Airplane hit a Cow?

You bet.

From your Dallas Stars

I especially like the way Brassard is looking up at the end of this saying, "Dude, I'm bleeding here. Can you stop beating the hell out of me?"

Crap it's hot!!

But don't get used to it. It's supposed to get down to 20 degrees Sunday, Monday, whenever it finally blows through. I drove over the bridge today and soooo wanted to go fishing. Water like glass and I saw one lonely little boat tied up to an electrical pole. That seems to be a popular spot but I can't recall seeing anyone catch anything there. This might have been the last opportunity for a while. Guess I'll just watch these to keep me entertained.

While you Work

Or shall I say while I work. Today is the Christmas breakfast for my department and I have been cooking eggs and sausage and we put together breakfast burritos. I think I've been doing this for about 6 years. Started out with just 4 or 5 of us and now we've got 10. It takes more eggs but is still one of the highlights of the season for me. Don't know why, just like doing things for my staff. Anyway, one of my co-workers reads this occasionally, maybe randomly is a better word, and gives me hell for posting during work. It's only happened a couple of times but this one is for you. By the way, I had your name for Secret Santa, Merry Christmas!!

Whatever happened to...

  • Good, clean jokes.
  • Hard working people. Ones that didn't complain either.
  • Stu Voight.
  • Sour Cherries from the vending machine.
  • Writing letters to your family and friends.
  • 10M network connections
  • Saying sir and ma'am
  • Opening doors for women, no matter their age.
  • Fedoras and pipes.
  • Snow chains and tires.
  • My favorite Chuck Foreman jersey when I was a kid. (It was my brother's)

Should I stay or Should I go now?

So we have a 2 hour weather delay today. I'm sitting in my truck and listening to neighbor scape his windshields (sucker!!!) when I get the call that an announcement will be made soon. Okay, back out of the garage or not? Truck cab seems to be warming up and I'm waiting for a call back. Idiot next door now scraping girlfriend's windshield (suck-up). So anyway I get the call that we're delayed today. I hate weather delays. When do I make the call to head out? Can I trust that the ice patches are gone after an hour or two? Since I usually get there 2 hours before school starts should I wait 4 hours? Maybe I should wait 6 or 7 hours just to be sure...No? Oh well for now I'll just tap into my work computer and get something else done. I guess that's just like being there anyway.

Spring Fishing Report

From Sunday's DMN:

"Crappie fishing at Lake Texoma should be good in the spring...Survey nets caught 23 fish per net, compared with 15 in 2007. Nineteen percent of the fish were 10 inches or bigger and 56 percent were eight to nine inches. Most of the smaller fish will be legal size by spring." I hope they have the same findings at RayBob.

Whatcha up to?

Curious about what everyone else is googling? Right now? Check this neat google time-waster that's updated every three minutes. You can also change the date which is kind of cool. I was very surprised my name was not at the top on my birthday last year. Some kind of poisoning instead. Hmm...maybe I should watch my back this year.

Friday, December 12, 2008

Please tell me why...

  • My freezer never seems to stop running
  • My central heat/air fan never seems to stop running, even after the temperature is met
  • Kids are fascinated with turning Christmas lights on..off.on...off. Creating their own blinking lights effect?
  • Graham Harrell wasn't invited to the Heisman presentation.
  • Marriage is easy but parenting is not.
  • Peeing outdoors is cool. (not to mention writing your name is snow)
  • Dogs play for 5 minutes, act exhausted then go back to sleep.

3.2M Hits and Counting

My new favorite band.

Sunday, December 7, 2008

Whose the Audiophile?

Okay, Queensryche is pretty good but they don't really have the staying power IMO. I think the wife and I wore out the Empire CD which we all know is pretty hard to do nowadays. I could have gone to see them in Amarillo with her but chose not to. She still brings that up when we talk about them. Probably top 40as I am not nearly as exposed to them other than the Empire CD.

Def Leppard had some great songs and had a huge following but can you still listen to them today? Seems like every time one of their songs comes on the radio or a video on the TV I have to change the channel. Just a little bit over-played IMHO. I think they had some great concert t-shirts too. I'd go top 30 with them.

Let's delve a little deeper into this. I'm not one to rank a band highly because they brought something new to music or contributed a new sound. Example: Nirvana. I gave that crappy CD to one of my students as a reward for highest WPM in a typing competition. They will not make any of my lists. Here's one that's similar to that. I would rate the Beatles top 3 for me just because I listened to their 8-tracks as a kid and just love their music. Stones...not so much. I mean John Lenon had to write their first hit for them in a bar. I just don't like their sound and might put them in my top 100, only if I ran out of bands.

Remember when Bohemian Rhapsody overtook Stairway to Heave as the number one song? Well that was in Lubbock so you probably don't. It was during the Wayne's World era and people went ballistic. I have no problem with that, it was temporary and people just wanted change. Those are probably the same people that elected Obama. (first mention of politics in my blog) (must stop now). Anyhoo, I'm sure Stairway topped the charts on the next listener's list.

I'll leave you with this. If The Clash played in the AAC and nobody was there, would they still suck?

Who's Your Favorite Band?

I'd love to post a poll here but there are literally millions of bands to choose as your favorite. Believe it or not, I know someone whose favorite is Led Zeppelin. Wow...shocking. Anyone that knows me knows I hate country and think the best thing to ever happen to the world is Wham. Before George was famous, OMG! Love those shorts, striped shirts, 80's hairdos. Wake me up before you go-go. OMG! Hmmm..Oops. I meant Rush, really. I recorded their R30 concert on Palladia the other night and since then have been listening to them quite frequently. If you've never heard Xanadu, The Trees, Cignus, Witch Hunt, Great stuff. Let me heard from you, post a comment on your faves. I will discount all Wham votes from the start.

Don't do It

Not that it, the other one. You know, the one I told you not to do last time. Right. That one. Denton tree lighting festival. Lame. Flip a switch, go home. Took longer to put on my coat, hat and gloves. Caroling was verrryyy bad. The businesses on the square really weren't spreading much cheer, although the one small glass of cider I had was pretty tasty. I was hoping this would be one of those family events that everyone looks forward to every year but it just didn't happen. We tried, got all bundled up, met some friends there and took three dolls for the Santa's Helpers. It just didn't work. Oh well, I'm sure many others had a great time and have had for quite some time. Even Troy Dungan said something about 33 straight years. Pete Dingus said thanks guys and Maci, well she was pretty drunk. She stayed in the van, that's right, down by the river. Happy Holidays!!

Can I just say...

  • I liked the smoked ham and turkey so much on TGD that I smoked another one of each on Sunday and have eaten turkey breast for lunch since. Really good stuff
  • Pies from TGD: pecan, lemon chess, pumpkin (6 I think), apple, cranberry crumble cheesecake pie, and several other deserts including cc cookies, Mississippi mud, fudge, brownies, and magic cookie bars. Stuck with the chess pie and magic bars.
  • There's a new virus out that is a minor thorn in our sides right now. Not sure how we got it but then again I think it is impossible most of the time to determine their origins.
  • Our new indoor tree seems to be shaping up pretty good. It's a relative of the cinnamon tree but not near as tasty.
  • The Ticket talked about movie theatre etiquette today. Stuff like that makes me want to turn the station. Not that I want sport all the time but Junior's topics can be very gay at times. He covers them up by saying things like, "Should I have smacked him up side his head?"
  • Corby is a tool.

Suspended for what?

So Sean Avery of the Dallas Stars was suspended for conduct detrimental to the league. He said, "it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds." He was talking about his ex girlfriend that is now dating another NHL player. Sorry but this is crap. Who cares and how is that detrimental to the league? These are the kinds of things that teams take care of with their enforcers. If another player has a problem with his comments, he would surely take care of it during the game. I can see the Stars suspending him to keep him from getting beat up. Other than that, not suspension worthy. Did I mention he's on my fantasy hockey team?

Just because

Since there are 30 days in November and I have 29 posts this month, I had to get one more on. First month I've averaged one per day. So I guess this is the lamest one too. No deep thoughts, no words of wisdom, no wonder of the word. I will say this though, Secret Millionaire looks really bad. We've already seen the ending for some of these guys so where's the drama? Do they all get thrown onto an island and have to compete to get rewards like caviar, champagne, diamonds? Now that I might watch...NOT.

Please go home

-My in-laws have been here since Wednesday evening and it's time to kick them out. They were supposed to leave yesterday but that trip was delayed when one of them got a sore shoulder and needed to go to the quack shack. I've been on the sofa for three straight nights and would like to have my bed back, I'll just leave it at that. Just said good morning and got a big layout. NICE. Could it be they're just as tired of me as I am of them?

-One more regular season game for Tech and that makes me happy-sad. Glad to have only one loss so far this year but the stress is killing me. Week in and week out. Bowl games aren't nearly as stressful to me for some reason.

-Go Cowboys! No, not those cowboys, the OSU cowboys. That's the first time I've used cowboys three oops four times in one paragraph since grade school.

-I don't want to go back to work on Monday. It's cyber Monday which means our Internet at work will be slower than slow. I'm sure I'll get several complaints.

-Anybody out there care about the BCS? I would like to have a copyright on those three little letters. I'll bet it's been said a gajillion times on TV and radio just this week. I'd be rich beyond my wildest dreams.

-I was sooooo tempted to upgrade my LCD TV yesterday. We got ours 4 years ago and we can get so much more TV for the money right now. Ours is great but man, we could go with a 65" Sharp (almost) for the same amount.

It's madness I tell you...Madness

I braved the traffic, weather and crowds to check out the bargains at Circuit City this morning. It wasn't nearly as crowded as I thought it would be but there were plenty of pine cones (inside joke). The Wal-Mart and Target parking lots were pretty full and the Best Buy was waaaayyyy crowded. I did not get the item I went in for but they had so many others on sale that were basically the same thing I was able to spend my caish. I stopped by Kroger on the way home to get some milk and they were not busy at all. Note to self. Check the grocery circulars and go grocery shopping on Black Friday while everyone else is sloshing through the big deals at the department stores.

Splode

I didn't want dinner because the lunch was just amazing and I couldn't stop. I eventually did and settled in for an afternoon of football. We ended up chatting all day and although football was on, I wasn't paying too much attention. I was shocked when I saw the Tennessee score but then again they played the Lions. I smoked a turkey and a ham and OMG they were both great. I thought the turkey was the best thing on the table and nobody is sick yet. I smoked it from 5:15 am until 1:35 pm. It was very juicy and had a great mesquite flavor. Think I'll do another one for Christmas. Looks like the Horns are gonna keep scoring so maybe I'll get to go to bed a little early. Gotta go shopping in the morning see you there.

What it's about

Saw this story this morning and although there are plenty of Thanksgiving Day feel good stories out there, this one summed it up for me. It's not just being thankful for everything and everyone, it's about caring for others. Truly inspiring story.

OCD taking over

So I am officially obsessed. I could have bought all kinds of neat toys today as I ventured out to Sam's, Lowe's, Home Depot, and Target. Instead I decided to get a new carpet cleaner, not steam but hot water cleaner and a new duster. The duster has a six foot handle on it so I can get the top of the ceiling fan blades without getting out the ladder. I can also reach the vents on the ceiling, too cool. The cover can be used dry or wet on hardwood floors and can be washed when dirty. I've already used both of them. Couldn't wait til tomorrow. Sick huh? WARNING on the video below...very lame.

Good stuff

Made in the hill country of Texas. They obviously have several types of wine but also have a bnb and lavender crops. Check it out here. I also enjoy the Greg Norman wines and can't complain about the Kendall Jackson. I haven't tried the whites and my favorite is the cab unless I'm feeling saucy I might go with a merlot. Both are great with a tenderloin or ribeye.

Sleepless in Denton

Well I got no sleep last night as I kept playing the game over and over in my head. It always turned out the same...65 points. That's the part that crushed me. Forget about the ineptness on the offense I just can't get over the 65. I have a new hatred for the Crimson and Cream now. I understand the need to run the score up but still don't like it even when Tech does the same. Can't we all just get along? The classy thing to do is take a knee at the 1 when up by 50 points. I think the game's well in hand and another 7 won't do much in the polls IMO. Sixty five? I was a non believer most of the season and finally believed all the hype that we could stay with them. Then the rain started. I didn't hear the thunder heck it wasn't even cloudy. But if you can't see the Tech defense drenched then you must be blind. Back to the same old Tech crap and losing more sleep about the game with Baylor. Thank god for naps.

Not so fast my friend

Big game again tonight. I posted on my hockey site that OU was 60-2 at home. They're actually 59-2 I hope I didn't jinx them. Here's a good one for you, OU (Crimson and Cream?) is 4-8 against ranked teams. Most of those are on the road including bowl games. In any case it should be a really good one. One more jinx before I go. I've felt really confident about this one all week long. Not nearly as much as the week leading up to the evil empire game.

Why can't you...

- pause the radio on the internet?
- LISTEN TO ME WHEN I'M TALKING?
- score 168 in a collegebasketball game?
- stabilize the economy?
- remember why you walked into the kitchen?
- stop at just 4 or 5 Oreos?
- explain to me why oil is below $50 a barrel?
- leave the cats alone?
- have a great Thanksgiving?

Where's Waldo?

After 10 weeks of the professional football season, I have seen several cheerleader squads. I'm not going to rank them other than number one by a long shot. I challenge you to find a better, well rounder, more intelligent and attractive group of young women. Without further hesitation I bring you the Tampa Bay Buccaneerettes?

Not like today

If you read the obituaries like I occasionally do, they look nothing like this. It would be great if they all read like this and hope that mine will. Don't you think this is just beautiful? BTW, this was my dad's sister who everyone said was very angelic.

Sunday morning

and it's cold inside. I think it was warmer outside than inside. That's pretty much greatness in my book. Takes me back to the winter storm of 07, well, this is Texas and any winter storm here is a two day event. I remember getting up and going to work but stopping at Starbucks first. On my way to the office I got the call that school was closing and to stay home. Instead of driving back home (I'll bet 1.5 hr.) I stayed at work and got a lot accomplished, rebuilding a server and installing the reading software on it. I think it was cold that day too.

Shocking 1961 ad campaign

YeeHaw

Several observations about this video, first it looks so very relaxing. Maybe it's Terry's voice, demeanor, etc. but I'm thinking about taking it up. Second, don't you just love that dog? I'll bet he rides in the front of the truck to the feed store. Third, have you ever petted a goat? Remember how their coat is very coarse and not that soft? These things look like you could use them as a pillow. Lastly, do you think they are all named Patches? Editor's note: removed due to hillbilly music in background.

This will never get old

Watch your back Sarah!

Stalker alert

Crazy

That 380 West of Denton is a crazy road. If you've been on it recently you know what I'm talking about. If you've been on it in the last 10 years you know what I'm talking about. Does the road create the crazy drivers or is it the crazy drivers that make it that way? I think it's all the gravel/dirt trucks, no doubt you've heard that several times in the past, but I don't think any of them follow the speed limit. I HATE TAILGATERS and when it's a semi-truck, it's 10X as bad. Article from 2006 that proves the dangers.

TURN THE LIGHTS OFF!!!

Okay, I've officially taken the baton from my dad regarding electricity waste. I want to do a case study on leaving all the lights on in the house while everyone is gone. Let's say one week. Next week use no lights at all, only candles. We can still wash the clothes and dishes (separately) and other essential appliances. Those might include:
-computers
-alarm clocks (damn it)
-garage door opener (still hate parking outside)
-PS2, PS3, wii (need my sanity at times)
-toaster
How much of a savings do you think we'd see? My guess....$3.21. Next week---Were you born in the barn?

Wish I had...

-a camera on my cell phone. There was a large fire on the way back from Ft. Worth I would have liked to taken a photo of. Santa Claus spotting at Kroger I would have liked too. No red suit but lots of white beard.
-knew how to play a musical instrument well. Used to play a few including the sax but quit when we moved to Texas.
-watered the yard more in the past few weeks. I'm concerned about the nematodes I put in to get rid of the bugworms.
-a new windshield on the truck. There's a small chip, not bad, just enough to draw my attention to it every once in a while. OCD again.
-an invention to keep the bug goo off of the windshield. Maybe coat it with olive oil so they slide right off?
-friends in high places. Then I could manipulate them and rule the world!
-four more Texas Tech victories. OU/Baylor/Mizzou/Title game

Not as easy as it looks

So I just made some Rice Krispie treats (they're still popping) and I have a few questions.

1. Could the Marshmallow creme stick to the jar and spoon any worse? I looked like I was inspecting the barracks with white gloves. Note to self: don't use the jar of creme. You're not lazy if you don't.
2. Have you noticed how you rinse the jar out and the creme just floats right out? Should I heat the jar before attempting to remove?
3. Are they supposed to taste nasty while warm? They are not gooey, crunchy, tasty at all. Note: check back in 20 minutes...read the recipe.
4. Is it wrong or cruel to give some to the dog? It's like crunchy peanut butter and I've done that before.
5. Exactly who did I make these for? Two of the boys have baces.

Oh well, they probably won't taste very good anyway. Isn't there a college mascot like a marshmallow? FSU Mallows?

First Class User Group

What is it? Email client we run in the district. Very interesting stuff although geeky:

-Active synch with iPhone and iTouch, Blackberry and most others. This means when you receive an email on your desktop, change/add/remove contacts, calendars, etc, immediate change.
-Client for iPhone in development, very cool where you can see your desktop without a computer.
-Archiving question arose and only 3 of us are running it. How can you not run it? With all the public information requests and lawsuits, it just makes sense to run. We could spend days on this subject, keep the lawyers away!! (Barry)
**Note to self, check retention periods
-There's more food here than a small army could eat and it's not even lunch time. Jason's Deli full blown breakfast...pretty good stuff.
-People watching over my should at this...creepy?
-break time, maybe more later

Tired of this yet?

Ding Dong

The wicked witch is dead. It took four hours to kill her but damn hell dead she is. One longhorn fan at halftime said,

"We gotta hit (Tech quarterback Graham) Harrell, and we will. We’re not worried at all.” Carl Detering, a Texas student, said he believes Tech’s fans had a major impact on the Red Raiders’ victory. “Tech expects to lose the game, so if they don’t win, they’ve got nothing to lose,” Detering said. “I wish they’d shut up.”

Typical, just typical.

Vehicular Maintenance

To fix or not to fix, that is the question. Whether tis nobler... I got new tires today and what a difference. I would hope so for 535 bucks. Seems like every time a repair or maintenance is needed I want to get rid of the truck. Patience is the key, not triangulated cross-fire. In the long run (when it's paid for) it's worth it to fix...right? (Do I use too many ...'s?) Last time I got an oil change though the guy recommended new tires, fuel system check, radiator flush, etc. Total: $1300. Right! Just let me get my other wallet out and I'll take care of that. But seriously, don't you always want a newer, better, faster, better smelling vehicle? Porsche...there is no substitute. (maybe a Ford truck)

Lubbock better than Austin?

No really, this guy says so. I've always know it but just couldn't put in on paper. This guy is such a genius...nobel piece prize for this blog. Oops, he left off the dust storms, 60 mph winds notwithstanding.

Ready to go yet?

Trick or Treat

Seems like there were a lot more people out last night and Ben knew 95% of them. Several houses left a bucket at the door with a sign that read "take two only". Looked like most people were honest but one of them was empty so you have to question that, right? Am I off base here? I mean, what if they had snickers and a young CrappieRaider showed up? Do you think two would be enough? Hmmm. Depends on if I was alone. My brother had a way of making me do things I wouldn't normally do. Anybody show up with a box from:
Thought this was funny too.

More Hocky fun time

Barch is supposed to be the Stars' enforcer but you can't compare to one of the all time great ones. Donnie's still got some left.

Good time hocky fun

#1 vs. #6

It's gonna be a good one...I hope. I am getting really jacked for next weekends faceoff between the evil empire and the Red Raiders. I said two weeks ago it was going to be a massacre, I hope I'm wrong. They're getting excited in Lubbock too. You gotta listen to yourself on this game because so many people thought the Raiders were gonna lose last week and a couple of weeks ago. I thought we would kill A&M and didn't but at least it made me feel better that I was 1/2 right. A&M only scored 2 pts. on a blocked extra point in the second half. Any way you slice it, the spotlight is on Lubbock. ESPN Gameday is gonna be there. Get your popcorn or Josie's ready!

Quick Thoughts

Man have I really craved the fishing life lately. Driving home and seeing no wind or waves on the lake. Last time, as you know, the weather didn't cooperate and I couldn't do the kind of fishing I wanted to. Ever since then it's about all I can think about. Now the front comes through and the fish are sure to have scattered so that takes a little of the anxiety away but not enough. Can you say HAWG?
Here's a goody!

Funny

If you missed it this weekend on SNL Weekend Update, Very Funny.

Football Thoughts

What's up with them Cowboys? The best part of their Jeckyyl and Hyde season is the fans are triple insane. They are so knee-jerk. I wonder if the fans in other cities are this wheels off. Listening to the ticket you would think they are as bad as the Lions. Remember that song from Men at Work? Cowboy fight song.

Looks like the evil empire is for real this year. Two weeks until we get our taste.

My blood pressure gets so high on the weekends and I don't think football should do that. If I donated at the blood bank, it would take about 30 seconds. Stupid football.

Best time of the week: Sunday morning reading the paper, drinking coffee, everyone else sleeping. It only lasts about an hour but greatness. Perhaps it's because my blood pressure finally decreases.

Could there be more mediocre teams in the NFL? Twelve teams are either .500 or one game above/below. That's close to 1/2 of the league. Only 14 teams out of 32 are above .500. Thats pitiful.

Please keep the NBA off of the television this year. I don't think I can watch an entire game. Can't remember that last time I did.

New Cool Links!!!

Best one yet.
Found this one yesterday.
Actually an oldie but a goodie.

Feline update

He's baaacckkk. I guess I need to cancel the check. Everyone was petting the lone survivor yesterday and talked about how they missed the other one. I guess they can all rejoice today...not me. I told them this morning I expected some dead mice around here, I hope they listened. BTW, the food dish has moved to the deck about 10feet from my front door.

Here kitty kitty kitty

Over that last 4 or 5 months there have been two kittens living under the building I work in. They have always kept their distance and don't bother us. They are afraid of me, perhaps its the barking noises, key shaking, horn honking....etc. A couple of the women in the building have been feeding these cats so they are getting more and more friendly. Not to me but that's okay.

Anyway, one of them has been very loud when we arrive so I assume it's hungry. "I say catch a mouse. We have plenty." It doesn't listen. Thing is, it's the only one left. The other has left the coupe. Fine with me, less mouths to feed, sorta. I have put up with these cats because our mouse problem was gone. "If you can't catch a mouse, leave." Only one listened.

I don't have the nerve to tell everybody that the cat that left was probably lured into a coyote trap and will not be returning. "Good riddance" I say. "You deserved it for failing us as a mouser. If you do by some miracle of the holy mouse god return, be ready to catch mice." If not you might find a similar fate but from a different kind of coyote. OOOUUUUUUWWWWW

Clipper

So I started looking for pizza coupons Saturday night because the Tech game ended late(OT) and nobody wanted to cook. I started looking, looking, looking and all these other coupons from the Sunday paper just kept piling up. Funny how you want to use coupons, keep them, but never really look at them after that. Anyway, I started sorting, cutting olong the lines, throwing away the expired ones, and I bet 2/3 of them were already expired. When did coupons start expiring in a month or two? That's one more way the man is brining me down. Buy it now or lose it. Gee, no pressure there.

Anyway, the wife took some of the ones I clipped to the store with her and saved a little over $7.00. She didn't use the expired one for buy one get on free loaf of bread. She's afraid that looks cheap or something. I woulda tried it but that's another story. So is it worth spending an hour clipping coupons for so little monetary reward? I say yes because it's one little way that I'm getting the wife to buy chocolate, ice cream, juju fruit, etc.

Whadda think?

Is the layout good, bad or ugly? New colors, fonts?

Hey Grandpa...

What's for dinner? Well we got all beef patties or all beef links with plenty of trimmin's and tots. Once you let that roll through your taste buds we got honey buns or mini Nilla wafers to satisfy your sweet tooth. Wash it all down with a
couple of baseball games (little league) and you got one special fillin' viddlefest. Notice the legal use of the picture? Grandpa don't wanna get in trouble with the cyber law.

Workday blues

Ever had 'em? Me neither. I finally took a couple of vacation days to do some fishing and other R & R but the weather didn't cooperate. As I look out the window at the seemingly georgeous day I am reminded that vacation days are for suckers. If you schedule them in advance, something will throw off your plans. If you wait until the last minute, something will throw off your plans. Oh well, I have a few lest I'll just have to try again. Until then:

Overrated?

KSU fans were chanting at the Tech team yesterday. Also taunted Harrell with "System QB", probably the lamest chant you can have. Aren't they running the same system? Why didn't their QB perform just as well, maybe 7 TDs instead of the 6 Graham finished with. Maybe it wasn't a taunt but but a hope for their future. Freeman is supposed to be one of the top QBs in the draft next year. Maybe he'll fit better in a different system.

Hey Mo, nice game yesterday you gotta feel good about that one. It was getting kinda close there at the end though. Maybe it's the system 'ol Bobby runs down there.

I don't think OU or The Longhorn is overrated at all as they looked very good against a couple of wanna be contenders. Clash of the Titans next week, should be a classic. Pregame prediction: OU 39 Longhorn 26 I never pick scores in the obvious numbers like 21-14 call me fickle or something.

Stuggling

for something to write tonight. I'm trying to keep it up but man it's difficult. In a nutshell:

Baseball game tomorrow
Grocery Shopping
Fantasy Hockey draft tomorrow night

No TTU football but there's some good ones. Hey Mo, Go 'Buffs!!!

The grocery shopping reminds me of when I was a child and we did same after church on Sundays. Seems like we spent like a gajillian dollars on food. There were 7 of us. We were pretty well behaved although we always asked for sweets n treats. Every once in a while mom would give in and get something, anything, and we'd sure as hell eat it. Remember that old taffy that tastes like peanut butter? Loved it then, hate it now. I always pushed for the bucket of ice cream, you know, the 2 gallon or whatever it was. Chocolate chip. Greatness.

Well it's my turn to say no, yes, maybe if you're good. I wonder if mom and dad had the same thoughts. I'll bet they did.

Know this guy's mom

Derek

Award for worst post?

Baseball madness

Had a very uncomfortable situation at the 12U baseball game today. During the game, kids were on base, the coach and a parent got into a yelling match. I've heard about them but never witnessed. After the parent started yelling instructions to the kids, it went something like this:
Coach: The coach is right here.
Mom: Then start doing your job.
Coach: I am, you can shut your mouth.
Mom: You're right coach.
Coach: You can be quiet or leave.

I thought it was over but:
Coach: I will tell them when I want them to do something, I'm the coach. You can leave.
Mom: My kid is out there, I'm not leaving.

Keep in mind they're about 30 yards from each other

Coach: You can leave
Mom: You can't..
Dad: Please don't do this.
Mom: I don't have to listen...
Mom: And this is free.

I was rolling the camcorder on this but when I listened to it at home, it wasn't as tense. You could hear them yelling but the mumbling in the crowd, especially the other parents, husband, etc. was not very audible.

At the post game coach talk, he handled it pretty well asking all parents to not shout instructions to the kids. They will get confused and not perform well at all. I totally agree with the coach but he should have left the bench and asked the mom to talk away from the others. Man it was tense and made DBBI look pretty bad. Where were the umpires? I though they could have stepped in also. Did I mention this was the first game of the year? Nice

Got speed??

You gotta check it out. It's cool to see the speed at 100. It's a little confusing the first couple of times but after that it's quite entertaining.

Today's Happenin's

  • Hit the Buck on the way to Ft. Worth. I just love drinking coffee and driving. The air in the truck smells like the Buck, listening to the Ticket Schtick...Greatness

  • Geek speak for about 5 1/2 hours. Some people there are really smart and there are some school districts that are very lucky. There are others that are..well..

  • Texas Virtual Schools is extremely interesting to me. The ability to teach a class with no discipline problems, awesome.

  • Shoulda stopped at the Buck on the way back but just couldn't do it. I musta had the tea from caffeine hell for lunch. I was thinking faster than I could speak. Sonny's tea...gecha some.

  • After picking up the boys at school, mowed the lawn, weeded eated (word?) and edged in 1 1/2 hours. If I had brought out the blower I would have gotten to the hour and a half mark again. Thing is, it was great. The truck said it was 78 degrees! Almost fun.

  • Baseball practice, last one before the first game. The boy was off the hook, couldn't stand still, follow instructions or quit kicking the dirt. Will I think that's cute when it's the grandson/daughter? Hope so.

  • Chips and queso for dinner at 8:00 pm. I don't like eating that late, especially something like that but man it was good. The wife can make some good squeezo.

People that call when you WANT to talk
Technology..yes I love technolgy
Juji Fruit
New shoes

OMG

Have you seen the size of the TU jumbotron? I'll be that thing is bigger than my HS football stadium. Seriously? Do the Egyptians need to see the highlights? I think they're trying to compensate for something...

Labor Day Thoughts

What is labor day? I think it's just a government created holiday to stir up $$$ for the economy. How many sales are there today? Aren't 3/4 of them mattress stores? Oh, I see, we need more rest so the idea of everyone taking a day off to buy mattresses will add up to more hours of sleep. It all makes sense now.

End of Week Thoughts

  • I hates me some cowboys
  • I loves me some football
  • Mo brings up a great point, check out the comment from yesterday. I have to agree. Not only do we push ourselves but others are pushing us as well. Most of the time we're not even aware of it.
  • Becker Vineyards--Cab--Very good. It's actually been a pretty good way to relax lately. I had a glass last night before bed and slept better than I have in quite some time. I also ran 3 miles and was up at 4:35 am so that might have something to do with it. Me likes me some Becker.
  • Speaking of Becker, never watched the show.
  • Speaker of show, never understood the racing reference. Didn't they all show?
  • Still debating my fantasy football team name, Seinfeld is the theme again. I got a couple in mind and so far the Frightened Turtles are leading the way.
  • If you haven't seen Intervention, it's a must see, TIVO baby. There's something about seeing somebody else in dire straits that makes you feel a little better about yourself. Is that wrong?

How many times

must I tell people "yes, I'll take care of it"? The speaker today focused on taking care of yourself, telling people no, and not spending so much time at work. I am pretty consistent with my hours at work but the hours I put in at home taking care of people is starting to add up. Hopefully it will get better after the school year begins. I kept thinking about my staff and how much time they put in at home or off the clock. Am I creating an expectation that they should keep it up? Does your boss or my boss create the same expectation of us?

Jason Taylor again

I'm really getting tired head on JT. He's already talking about his Hollywood aspirations. Seen on PTI today, he seems to be getting more...well...his skull appears to be expanding. Still, there's a strange fascination since he's Zach's brother in law. I almost feel like he's the brother that I always looked up to. The one that I wanted to be like. The one that always made me feel like a failure. Wait..I already have one of those.

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Zach's sister?

I always wondered what she looks like and see little to no family resemblance. I assumed she would be short and bulky like Zach and a big round face. There might be a little something with the round face but other than that, one of them is definitely adopted.

Fishing

So my brother finally came to the house for fishing after promising for years. I was so shocked that he actually showed up. The fish showed up also but they just wouldn't bite like we hoped. We still caught about 20 and kept 5 but we should have kept our limit. The sand bass were schooling all around. It was pretty cool for an hour we were pretty much surrounded by fish. It looked like the boat was in boiling water. We tried Rattle Traps, slabs, Torpedos, jigs, and Road Runners. Seems like we would get a bite on the first cast after changing and then nothing until we changed again.

I have to admit that he did catch more fish than me and that's fine with me. I'm just happy that he showed up and we got to do something. I guess that means it's my turn to go to his house next.

Thursday Skattershooting

  • Would it be wrong to have O'Douls in the fridge at work? I mean really, I like beer and the alcohol content is like nothing. Is there a fear that I'd drink a case and get a slight buzz?
  • Just finished with Verizon tech support and have to say the guy actually knew what he was doing. It took a little bit of time but he was knowledgeable, polite, and...American...AWESOME!!!
  • I hope somebody is reading this, otherwise it's just a diary. GAY?
  • Are these the kind of posts that get people fired or not hired? Does anybody else worry about that kind of thing?
  • I can't seem time to read my Sports Illustrated magazines even though tech is number 8 preseason. Almost seems like a waste of money. You know, if they rank Tech number 8, I should pay SI triple the subcription rate.
  • This marks the fourth day in a row that I've worked out. M & W run, Tu & Th weights. As I typed that, had a college flashback on the T/Th classes thing. I loved the 1 1/2 hour classes. I felt like I learned more and the days went by faster. On the downside, seems like there was more homework and fewer classes before a test. I rocked those Tu/Th classes!!!

Tuesday and all is...

Okay, I guess. Things haven't even begun to slow down. I've been here for an hour and a half and I'm wondering who's next. Seems like I just get started on something and another phone call. Another email. Can anybody relate? Three more weeks of this madness...then school begins. Amazing

What's up with that?

Why isn't Texas listed as a country in the setup?

What's on Mike's Mind?

I know I'm not Mike but I like the jingle and it's fitting.

  • Some people say I'm OCD, I like CDO better. That way they're in the right order.

  • Is Tech being setup for another 8-4 year? I mean with the amount of pub we're getting it still is Tech. Are there any Tech fans left that really think a BCS game is possible? Just keep beating A&M and throw in a Texas or OU win, that keeps me happy...sorta.

  • It's too hot to go fishing. That chaps me.

  • It's too hot to mow the yard. That doesn't chap me.

  • I think the wrestling in Nacho Libre is fake.

I'm going to try and post a weekly "my three words". It's a pretty cool idea and since it's hit GMA, I think everyone's heard of it. My three words for the past week (discovered at team building):

  1. Leave me Alone

  2. I like Pie
