I hit 300!!!

Wish it were .300 for the Twins but I'll take it. I'm surprised I have had that many hits and even more surprised that it continues to rise. That's what she said. But I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for wasting their precious time on my feeble attempt at blogdom. I hope I get better in the next year and continue to entertain, educate, or whatever else you are looking for. Lastly, let's all have a safe holiday break and recharge for the new year because the pain train is comin'!!!!

And another

Can you believe this is a fractal? Too cool.

My Own Private Little Movie Preview

So we got the Dark Knight for Christmas and I discouraged my son from watching it on Saturday. Now just wait, I wanted to watch it as a family with full blown surround sound, no lights, etc. You know what I'm saying. I remember all the hype about Heath Ledger's performance and I have to agree. Greatness. Oscar??? DK. I also thought the voice of Batman was over the top and I appreciate them not hammering us with a bunch of new "toys". It was a little lengthy and I though they could cut a few scenes but isn't that the case in most movies? Oscar clip her, Golden Globe clip there, Toronto Film Festival festivus there. So anyway, on a scale from 1 to 5 I'd have to give it a 4+ish. Anybody else see it? Lemme hear from you.

Enter at your own risk

I was checking out the Washington Post top 10 most watched videos for the year and stumbled across this crazy woman. No doubt she's the hardest working woman in show business, just listen to her talk. I give full credit to her cards and her father complex. Sad part is I'll never get that time back to be used for something constructive.

Also found this cool web site. Don't care if I get that time back or not, neat stuff. It does take a while to load so please be patient. There's a couple that the kids don't need to see but other than that, very cool

Struggling

With all the blogs that I read and all the witty things, I often find myself trying to match them. It's a challenge but then again, is that what it's about? According to wikipedia, a blog has many characteristics and/or definitions. Here's the world's most read blog. Anyway, back to my post. Seems like the things I should post are the things that happen in normal conversation with the wife. Could it be that I'm not quite as witty as I think I am? I believe it has to do with the company I'm with. You see, she gets me and I get her. Have a great day.

Not gonna do it!!

Seems like every blog, web page, newspaper, email and television show is wishing everyone a merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and I even got a "have a great day" at the store this morning. Well I'm not gonna do it, not on this here blog. Not that I'm S.C.R.O.O.G.E. but those canned greetings just drive me nuts. I came up with my own a few years ago that just didn't catch on like I thought it would. C'mon people, I know you are right there with me, just join the cause. The traditional greetings just don't seem too sincere. If my dad says Merry Christmas I'll buy that one but the co-worker at the copier? They are just making small talk, "traveling this holiday?" JEEZZ. Just get outa my way and let me collate before I puke. As for all you that still think I'm Scrooge, have a Merry Frickin' HO-HO.

Fricken Server

So I started a virtual disc build on Friday and when I arrived this morning all was good, so I thought. It probably took about 6 hours total. Damn thing went on it's own and created two partitions in the SCSI BIOS. I've never seen that before so I have to redo the entire thing. I was hoping to download 6T of videos over the next 2 weeks but have been informed that now there probably is not enough time. Crap. Oh well, I guess I'll go in tomorrow and the next day to delete it and then build it again.

Book to Read

You should be able to finish this book in a little over an hour and is a good way to help define your new year's resolutions. It's called Hung by the Tongue and written by Francis P. Martin. It's "a study of the words of your mouth". In other words, what you say is what you get. Give it a shot.

Shut it Down already

Please get off the field and bring in the wrecking ball. Does an old piece of crap stadium really need a farewell like this? NOT. And why isn't jubjub doing the voice over? Anyway, this is so stupid. God's windows? PLEASE. If you are at the stadium watching this crap, I feel so sorry for you. Audio just went to a very high pitched buzz...nice presentation. Something about all of this says jinx. Especially since this happened. BTW, I hope this thing falls down. They are behind one play which really makes this a high class farewell. Sweet emotions.

Can an Airplane hit a Cow?

You bet.

From your Dallas Stars

I especially like the way Brassard is looking up at the end of this saying, "Dude, I'm bleeding here. Can you stop beating the hell out of me?"

Crap it's hot!!

But don't get used to it. It's supposed to get down to 20 degrees Sunday, Monday, whenever it finally blows through. I drove over the bridge today and soooo wanted to go fishing. Water like glass and I saw one lonely little boat tied up to an electrical pole. That seems to be a popular spot but I can't recall seeing anyone catch anything there. This might have been the last opportunity for a while. Guess I'll just watch these to keep me entertained.

While you Work

Or shall I say while I work. Today is the Christmas breakfast for my department and I have been cooking eggs and sausage and we put together breakfast burritos. I think I've been doing this for about 6 years. Started out with just 4 or 5 of us and now we've got 10. It takes more eggs but is still one of the highlights of the season for me. Don't know why, just like doing things for my staff. Anyway, one of my co-workers reads this occasionally, maybe randomly is a better word, and gives me hell for posting during work. It's only happened a couple of times but this one is for you. By the way, I had your name for Secret Santa, Merry Christmas!!

Whatever happened to...

  • Good, clean jokes.
  • Hard working people. Ones that didn't complain either.
  • Stu Voight.
  • Sour Cherries from the vending machine.
  • Writing letters to your family and friends.
  • 10M network connections
  • Saying sir and ma'am
  • Opening doors for women, no matter their age.
  • Fedoras and pipes.
  • Snow chains and tires.
  • My favorite Chuck Foreman jersey when I was a kid. (It was my brother's)

Should I stay or Should I go now?

So we have a 2 hour weather delay today. I'm sitting in my truck and listening to neighbor scape his windshields (sucker!!!) when I get the call that an announcement will be made soon. Okay, back out of the garage or not? Truck cab seems to be warming up and I'm waiting for a call back. Idiot next door now scraping girlfriend's windshield (suck-up). So anyway I get the call that we're delayed today. I hate weather delays. When do I make the call to head out? Can I trust that the ice patches are gone after an hour or two? Since I usually get there 2 hours before school starts should I wait 4 hours? Maybe I should wait 6 or 7 hours just to be sure...No? Oh well for now I'll just tap into my work computer and get something else done. I guess that's just like being there anyway.

Spring Fishing Report

From Sunday's DMN:

"Crappie fishing at Lake Texoma should be good in the spring...Survey nets caught 23 fish per net, compared with 15 in 2007. Nineteen percent of the fish were 10 inches or bigger and 56 percent were eight to nine inches. Most of the smaller fish will be legal size by spring." I hope they have the same findings at RayBob.

Whatcha up to?

Curious about what everyone else is googling? Right now? Check this neat google time-waster that's updated every three minutes. You can also change the date which is kind of cool. I was very surprised my name was not at the top on my birthday last year. Some kind of poisoning instead. Hmm...maybe I should watch my back this year.

Please tell me why...

  • My freezer never seems to stop running
  • My central heat/air fan never seems to stop running, even after the temperature is met
  • Kids are fascinated with turning Christmas lights on..off.on...off. Creating their own blinking lights effect?
  • Graham Harrell wasn't invited to the Heisman presentation.
  • Marriage is easy but parenting is not.
  • Peeing outdoors is cool. (not to mention writing your name is snow)
  • Dogs play for 5 minutes, act exhausted then go back to sleep.

3.2M Hits and Counting

My new favorite band.

Sunday, December 7, 2008

Whose the Audiophile?

Okay, Queensryche is pretty good but they don't really have the staying power IMO. I think the wife and I wore out the Empire CD which we all know is pretty hard to do nowadays. I could have gone to see them in Amarillo with her but chose not to. She still brings that up when we talk about them. Probably top 40as I am not nearly as exposed to them other than the Empire CD.

Def Leppard had some great songs and had a huge following but can you still listen to them today? Seems like every time one of their songs comes on the radio or a video on the TV I have to change the channel. Just a little bit over-played IMHO. I think they had some great concert t-shirts too. I'd go top 30 with them.

Let's delve a little deeper into this. I'm not one to rank a band highly because they brought something new to music or contributed a new sound. Example: Nirvana. I gave that crappy CD to one of my students as a reward for highest WPM in a typing competition. They will not make any of my lists. Here's one that's similar to that. I would rate the Beatles top 3 for me just because I listened to their 8-tracks as a kid and just love their music. Stones...not so much. I mean John Lenon had to write their first hit for them in a bar. I just don't like their sound and might put them in my top 100, only if I ran out of bands.

Remember when Bohemian Rhapsody overtook Stairway to Heave as the number one song? Well that was in Lubbock so you probably don't. It was during the Wayne's World era and people went ballistic. I have no problem with that, it was temporary and people just wanted change. Those are probably the same people that elected Obama. (first mention of politics in my blog) (must stop now). Anyhoo, I'm sure Stairway topped the charts on the next listener's list.

I'll leave you with this. If The Clash played in the AAC and nobody was there, would they still suck?

Who's Your Favorite Band?

I'd love to post a poll here but there are literally millions of bands to choose as your favorite. Believe it or not, I know someone whose favorite is Led Zeppelin. Wow...shocking. Anyone that knows me knows I hate country and think the best thing to ever happen to the world is Wham. Before George was famous, OMG! Love those shorts, striped shirts, 80's hairdos. Wake me up before you go-go. OMG! Hmmm..Oops. I meant Rush, really. I recorded their R30 concert on Palladia the other night and since then have been listening to them quite frequently. If you've never heard Xanadu, The Trees, Cignus, Witch Hunt, Great stuff. Let me heard from you, post a comment on your faves. I will discount all Wham votes from the start.

Me in 20 years

I keep forgetting to post this picture. It's burned on the inner part area of my skull brain. Poor little Tweety Bird.

Don't do It

Not that it, the other one. You know, the one I told you not to do last time. Right. That one. Denton tree lighting festival. Lame. Flip a switch, go home. Took longer to put on my coat, hat and gloves. Caroling was verrryyy bad. The businesses on the square really weren't spreading much cheer, although the one small glass of cider I had was pretty tasty. I was hoping this would be one of those family events that everyone looks forward to every year but it just didn't happen. We tried, got all bundled up, met some friends there and took three dolls for the Santa's Helpers. It just didn't work. Oh well, I'm sure many others had a great time and have had for quite some time. Even Troy Dungan said something about 33 straight years. Pete Dingus said thanks guys and Maci, well she was pretty drunk. She stayed in the van, that's right, down by the river. Happy Holidays!!

Can I just say...

  • I liked the smoked ham and turkey so much on TGD that I smoked another one of each on Sunday and have eaten turkey breast for lunch since. Really good stuff
  • Pies from TGD: pecan, lemon chess, pumpkin (6 I think), apple, cranberry crumble cheesecake pie, and several other deserts including cc cookies, Mississippi mud, fudge, brownies, and magic cookie bars. Stuck with the chess pie and magic bars.
  • There's a new virus out that is a minor thorn in our sides right now. Not sure how we got it but then again I think it is impossible most of the time to determine their origins.
  • Our new indoor tree seems to be shaping up pretty good. It's a relative of the cinnamon tree but not near as tasty.
  • The Ticket talked about movie theatre etiquette today. Stuff like that makes me want to turn the station. Not that I want sport all the time but Junior's topics can be very gay at times. He covers them up by saying things like, "Should I have smacked him up side his head?"
  • Corby is a tool.

Suspended for what?

So Sean Avery of the Dallas Stars was suspended for conduct detrimental to the league. He said, "it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds." He was talking about his ex girlfriend that is now dating another NHL player. Sorry but this is crap. Who cares and how is that detrimental to the league? These are the kinds of things that teams take care of with their enforcers. If another player has a problem with his comments, he would surely take care of it during the game. I can see the Stars suspending him to keep him from getting beat up. Other than that, not suspension worthy. Did I mention he's on my fantasy hockey team?
